Capital Cities: Private SPG Buenos Aires Concert

I’ve written about my obsession with collecting and using points and miles numerous times on this blog. Our family has been able to earn points from credit card signup bonuses and spend and then turn them into great travel experiences at places that we would never have been able to afford if we had to pay.

While we tend to use our points on travel, sometimes special experiences and offers come around that can only be obtained with points. Unfortunately most of these deals are US-only, but we finally got one in Buenos Aires that sounds amazing!

Capital Cities Buenos AiresCapital Cities will be performing a special private show at the Sheraton Buenos Aires on December 4, 2014, as part of the SPG Hear the Music concert series. This year-long concert series pairs one-off intimate performances at Sheraton properties around the globe. At each show, you’ll get members-only access to the performance as well as admission to a pre-show cocktail reception. (I’ve seen great reviews of the Starwood cocktail parties from other events.)

So, how do you get tickets? First, you’ll need 5,000 Starpoints (Starwood Hotels points currency). If you do not have those, you can always buy 5,000 Starpoints for U$S 175, though it’s always cheaper to have the points already. Next, head over to the SPG Hear The Music site and buy your package – admission for two to the pre-show cocktail party as well as two tickets to the show.

If you’re a huge Capital Cities fan, then you can also bid on five packages to meet the band. The bidding starts at 5,000 Starpoints and as of now, only one package has bids on it.

Unfortunately we just used most of our Starpoints on AA airfare and a stay at The Liberty Hotel in Boston. These were both great uses of Starpoints, especially since The Liberty was $457/night! If we can build our balance back up before they sell out, we’ll see you there!

The Cure Announce Their Latin American Tour

The Cure ArgentinaIconic British band, The Cure, have just announced their first Latin American tour in over 17 years. Luckily, the tour includes an April 12, 2013 stop in Buenos Aires – their first concert in Argentina in over 26 years! Tickets go on sale Monday, February 4, 2013.

Here’s the press release and their other Latin American dates:

Iconic British band The Cure announces its return to Latin America with shows in Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico.
LONDON, January 28th, 2013.

The Cure, one of the worlds’ most enduringly influential bands, at last returns to Latin America!

This iconic group, lead by singer and guitarist Robert Smith, has had an extraordinary career spanning more than 35 years and tens of millions of sales. With a profusion of hit singles – including ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, ‘The Lovecats’, ‘Close To Me’, ‘Just Like Heaven’ and ‘Friday I’m In Love’ – and a range of classic albums – including ‘Pornography, ‘Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me’, ‘Disintegration’, ‘Wish’ and ‘Bloodflowers’ – the group has long been established as a global phenomenon.

While punk was still reverberating through popular culture, The Cure’s unique blend of moody, atmospheric and unforgettable songs pioneered a new era in popular music and marked them for greatness from the start. Their strong sense of theatricality and unique styling gave birth to entirely new subcultures, and new generations continue to discover their signature sound and make it the soundtrack to their lives.

In April 2013, The Cure finally returns to South America after 17 years!

The Cure ‘LatAm2013 Tour’ includes the following stops:

  • April 4th 2013 – HSBC Arena, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • April 6th 2013 – Morumbi, São Paulo, Brazil
  • April 9th, 2013 – Jockey Club, Asunción, Paraguay
  • April 12th, 2013 – River Plate Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina – ONSALE 12:01am Feb 4th
  • April 14th, 2013 – Estadio Nacional, Santiago, Chile
  • April 17th, 2013 – Estadio Nacional, Lima, Peru
  • April 19th, 2013 – Simon Bolivar Park, Bogotá, Colombia
  • April 21st, 2013 – Foro Sol, Mexico City, Mexico

The Cure – Robert Smith (vocals and guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keyboards) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar) – return in 2013 on the back of a run of 19 major European summer festival 2012 headline spots, which began at Pinkpop in May and ended at Eire’s Electric Picnic in September, and included epic sets at Roskilde, Werchter, Hurricane, Maxidrom, Les Eurockeenes, Vieilles Charrues, Reading and Leeds along the way.

The Cure’s Robert Smith says, “We are deliriously happy to be coming back to South America at last – we have been away for far too long! We will be playing 3+ hour shows, and have every intention of making this the most memorable Cure Tour EVER!”

So the question is, who else is in for 3+ hours of Cure-goodness?
